Strongsville defeated Holy Name 87-70
Villa Angela-St. Joseph defeated Shaker Heights 77-45 Brush defeated Benedictine 46-43 Glenville defeated CVCA 69-43 University School defeated Elyria Catholic 88-62 Lutheran West defeated Youngstown Ursuline 75-60 Lutheran East defeated Euclid 67-54 Canton McKinley defeated Cleveland Heights 60-58 Youngstown Chaney defeated Elyria 49-48 Maple Heights defeated Cornerstone Christian 102-77 Glenville is a problem and they aren’t 100% yet This offseason, the Glenville Tarblooders added several guys from transfer. But being a football school, not everyone for their team is playing yet as Glenville’s football team played the night before this game against CVCA. With the guys they had, they left no doubt in a 69-43 win. Theo Castro and Maysfield transfer Xavier Vickerstaff led the Tarblooders in the victory. Once Glenville adds their football guys and gets some flow going, they could be a dangerous team out of Northeast Ohio in Division IV. Longhorns and Irish not as close The headline game of Day 2 and the event featured Lutheran West and Youngstown Ursuline. Lue West was losing a lot of talent from the year prior but had added a few transfers to help alleviate some of the losses. Ursuline, while a young team, was looking to leave off from their State Semifinal trip a season ago. This game was expected to be close, but the Longhorns came in and put it away by 15. It shows Lutheran West is still going to be a tough team to matchup with in Division III. New guys give Lue East confidence The Lue was another team losing a lot of production and tasked with replacing a lot of talent. Always good in the transfer portal, the Falcons specifically added TJ Crumble and Dylan Zeigler to their team. Crumble was part of Lutheran East’s State championship team in 2023, but he transferred to Richmond Heights last year and returned to the Falcons for his junior year. Zeigler is considered one of the best freshman in the state and has already received Division I offers before he stepped foot at Lue East. Both new guys stepped up and helped the Falcons finish Euclid in this game and build early confidence the Lue is starting right where they left off. Elyria shocked by Cowboys After winning the headliner game at the DiFranco Classic before Thanskgiving, Elyria was on the losing end in Cleveland Heights as they fell to Youngstown Chaney 49-48. The Pioneers were held far under their 78 points against Sandusky as they failed to reach the 50-point mark. Chaney was within 1-2 possessions at each quarter break and pulled away late to complete the upset. It’s hard to read into much in the first week of the season. But it brings polar opposite reactions from beating a state contender in Sandusky to falling short against Chaney. How Elyria regroups and rebounds against Solon and Avon in their next two games will be more telling of the Pioneers and where they stand.
