With several role guys from a year ago returning, hopes were high the Warriors would remain the powerhouse they normally are. They were certainly tested against Africentric as the Nubians led by double figures multiple times throughout the game. However, Wayne was resilient and battled back, turning the tide in the 2nd half and beating the Nubians by 10. Boots Perkins stood out with 25 points in the win Hartley, Westerville North dominate In two somewhat surprise results, Bishop Hartley and Westerville North both were victorious in their matchups with the surprise being more the margin of victory. Hartley dominated Pickerington Central and shot the ball at a high level in route to dominating the young Tigers 90-53. Several guys stepped up for the Hawks as they used the win as a pedestal for Division IV this year. Westerville North was matched up with Richmond Heights, the three-time defending state champions fresh off of a victory of Kettering Alter the night before. The Warriors caught Richmond Heights off guard and won by 36 points against the defending champs. With senior duo of Micah Young and Tai Perkins leading them, this year might finally be the year the Warriors break through and make it to Dayton. Vikings take care of business without their top player Northland took a tough loss early in the year when their standout, King Kendrick, transferred out of state to North Carolina. The move raised questions of the Vikings’ and their offensive output with Kendrick’s departure. Northland showed that wouldn’t be a problem with a 62-47 victory over Worthington Christian to start their season off. In Kendrick’s departure, Nehemiah McMorris and Jaden Schoultz were leaned on to fill in the gaps and it showed in the win. Reynoldsburg wins heavyweight on their home court The headliner of the event was the host Raiders going up against Toledo Whitmer. Reynoldsburg entered the game one of Division I’s best rosters with 4 Division I prospects on their roster. They left no doubt beating the Panthers by double figures and beginning the season on a strong note. It’s a big win for Reynoldsburg as they look to take advantage of a lighter schedule before matchups with Trotwood-Madison, Cleveland St. Ignatius and Cincinnati Princeton later this month.
